His Majesty the King paid a three-day visit to the Indian state of Gujarat from July 22 to 24, accompanied by Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay.
His Majesty was warmly welcomed by the Government and people of Gujarat during his visit, during which His Majesty visited various infrastructure projects and construction sites in the state.
On June 22, His Majesty was received at the Vadodara Airport by Indian Minister of State Shri Jagdish Vishwakarma, who accompanied His Majesty and Lyonchen to visit the Statue of Unity. The 182-meter-tall statue is dedicated to the great Indian statesman and architect of independent India, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, and is the tallest statue in the world. His Majesty also visited the nearby Sardar Sarovar Dam, the second largest gravity dam in the world in terms of the amount of concrete used. His Majesty was then received at the Ahmedabad Airport by Gujarat Chief Minister Shri Bhupendra Patel, who welcomed His Majesty with a dinner in Gandhinagar, the state capital.
On July 23, His Majesty visited the 30,000MW Hybrid Renewable Energy Park in Kavda, Gujarat, the world’s largest renewable energy project, built by Adani Green Energy Ltd. His Majesty also visited Mundra Port, India’s largest container port and largest commercial port, owned and operated by Adani Ports and SEZ Ltd.
On July 23, before leaving for Bhutan, His Majesty visited the Gujarat International Finance Te-City (GIFT City), an under-construction central business district in Ahmedabad that is expected to be India’s first operational greenfield smart city and international financial services hub.
The King thanked the Government and people of Gujarat for the warm welcome extended to the Bhutanese delegation, which reflected the outstanding traditional hospitality for which Gujarat and the whole of India are famous.
The visit to India aims to further strengthen cooperation between India and Bhutan in infrastructure development and related areas, and explore opportunities for cooperation on the Kalephut Mindfulness City project.
