Danat Al Emarat Women and Children’s Hospital, part of the M42 Group, has successfully performed a complex surgery on a baby suffering from tracheoesophageal fistula and esophageal atresia, a rare congenital disease that threatens the life of the child, whose German parents are employees of an airline in the country.
The surgery was performed by Dr Brian McCormack, consultant paediatric and neonatal surgeon at Danat Al Emarat Hospital for Women and Children.
“The surgical team prepared the baby for this technically complex surgery, which we as neonatal surgeons performed starting with the important step of separating the esophagus from the airway, an important procedure to protect the baby’s health,” said Dr. McCormack. “Once the airway was secured, we successfully connected the two ends of the esophagus with a tube that was passed through the nose to the stomach. The tube facilitated the delivery of food and maintained communication during the healing process.”
