“If they do ‘kill President Trump’ (which is always a possibility), I expect the USA to destroy Iran and wipe it off the face of the Earth. If this does not happen, everyone will think the leaders of the United States are cowards,” Trump wrote on his social network Trut Soshal, sharing part of Netanyahu’s speech.
US media reported last week that the US Secret Service stepped up security for Trump a few weeks ago after authorities learned of a suspected Iranian assassination plot. The alleged Iranian plot was unrelated to the recent assassination attempt in which a 20-year-old American man shot Trump at a campaign rally.
Relations between Washington and Tehran have long been strained and reached a breaking point after the US killed Iranian Revolutionary Guard commander Qassem Soleimani in a drone strike in Iraq ordered by Trump when he was at the top of the White House.
Trump’s message was reminiscent of a controversial incident in 2019, when as president Trump threatened to destroy Iran if it attacked “any American product.”
