Furneaux was born Elisabeth Yvonne Scatcherd in France in 1926 to an English family. She returned to her homeland just before the outbreak of World War II and graduated from the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London in 1951.
She is best known for her role in The Mummy, starring alongside Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee, and has also starred in films directed by Roman Polanski, Federico Fellini and Michelangelo Antonioni.
The actress died of complications following a stroke, according to her son. Yvonne Furneaux was 98 years old.
