Hyundai Motors has started production in Uzbekistan. Uzbek company Asahi Automobile International has started production of Korean cars. It is reported that the first stage will use the large-scale assembly method, but plans to deepen localization in the future.
“The Alakazam automobile plant in Syr Darya has started producing Hyundai cars,” the publication said, citing a source from the regional government of Uzbekistan.
Today, the plant assembles the Elantra and Sonata sedans, the Tucson and Palisade crossovers and the Staria minivan.
Last April, the assembly plant signed an agreement with Hyundai management to organize the production of Korean cars. By the end of 2024, the plant plans to master body welding and painting, and future plans include localizing some parts in Uzbekistan, including creating a parts production cluster in the region.
The exact timing of the project was not disclosed.
