Ajax beat Vojvodina 1-0 in Europa League qualifiers

In the first match of the second qualifying round of the Europa League, Ajax defeated Serbian FK Vojvodina 1-0. In the almost full Johan Cruyff Arena, the only goal was scored by substitute Branko van den Boumen. The return will take place in Serbia on Thursday, August 1. In the first official match of the season, Yuri Bas, Kian Fitz-Gim, Christian Rasmussen and Remco Paschwell got the starting positions, with Remco Paschwell being named the first goalkeeper by coach Francesco Farioli.

After an awkward start, more and more chances came to Ajax players. Carlos Forbes, Christian Rasmussen, Chuba Akpom and Kenneth Taylor all came close to scoring, but there was no goal in the first half.

Ajax’s performance was obviously weak in the second half. The pass often did not arrive, the pressure was moderate, and Vodina could even take the lead. It was not until the end of the second half that substitute Van den Bummen headed in a cross from substitute Mika Goetz that he was liberated.

Go Ahead Eagles also got into action on Thursday. In the second round of the Division League Qualifiers, they lost 0-0 at home to Norwegian SK Brann. It was the first official match under new coach Paul Giemnis. They will return to action in Norway next week.
