Libreville, Thursday, July 25, 2024 (Infos Gabon) – For decades, Gabon has been seeking to achieve food self-sufficiency. It was with this in mind that the seed project was created a few years ago.
But during the operation, the structure encountered great difficulties. Since then, there has been an uproar, and then the seeds have come alive. The coming to power of the Institutional Transition and Restoration Committee on August 30, 2023 has given the Gabonese people hope for their future and also made Gabon’s future full of love and solidarity.
For the transitional government, achieving food self-sufficiency remains one of the main concerns, which is why the Council of Ministers retained on Tuesday, July 23, the draft decree on the creation, organization and functioning of the Gabonese Agricultural and Livestock Association (SAGA).
“SAEG is a state-owned company whose mission is to contribute to the revitalization of the agricultural sector in Gabon and to the achievement of food security and sovereignty objectives. SAEG’s sole shareholder is the Gabonese State, represented by the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, which ensures technical supervision of the company,” the final communique of the Council of Ministers reported.
Worse still, the transitional government is absolutely keen to upgrade the agricultural sector. Gabon imports more than 400 billion CFA francs worth of food each year. SAEG must make the Gabonese people forget their ancestral Graine and it will certainly mobilize skills and resources so that they can allow them to control consumption while strengthening economic resilience.
