An opposition lawmaker was sentenced to two years in prison by Krongsar police yesterday morning for allegedly sexually assaulting a girl.
However, he was released the same day after the court granted him legal recognition. Police officials said the deputy’s defence was filed on July 23 and as per the Rules of Procedure, they cannot be arrested within 15 days before the sitting of Parliament and within 15 days after the end of the sitting.
Police officials said that after the incident, the police had obtained permission from the court to arrest them.
According to the councillor’s statement to the Krongsar police station, he denied all the allegations and said the police should thoroughly investigate the matter to find out the truth.
Kunsel said a person familiar with the matter told him that the councilman and his lawyer had reported the matter to the association’s office.
The victim’s mother took her 16-year-old daughter for treatment. On the 9th, the office of Padma’s secretary general filed a complaint with the Krongsar police station.
The girl’s mother said the councillor, who was appointed as the administrator of Nubisgwag two years ago, sexually assaulted her daughter while she was a police officer.

The girl’s mother said officers gave her daughter a laptop, but officers said an old laptop given to the girl’s family did not exist.
The lawmaker said he would also send shoes and other items to the girl’s family.
