Jakarta(ANTARA) –
Indonesia has expressed support for the leadership of Malaysia, the next ASEAN chair, to help resolve the Myanmar crisis.
Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi expressed hope that Malaysia would maintain the inclusive approach adopted by Indonesia during its ASEAN chairmanship in 2023 when he met his Malaysian counterpart Mohamad bin Hassan in Kuala Lumpur on Wednesday.
“We agreed to continue to strengthen solidarity among stakeholders in inclusive dialogue, expand inclusive and non-polarized humanitarian assistance, and promote international support and synergy for ASEAN’s efforts,” she said in a press statement.
She also reiterated Indonesia’s commitment to the Five-Point Consensus (5PC), which aims to provide a reference for resolving Myanmar’s political crisis through the Troika mechanism.
The troika mechanism is considered essential to ensure continuity in efforts to deal with Myanmar. Last year, Indonesia will serve as ASEAN’s rotating chair; this year, Laos will serve as ASEAN’s rotating chair; next year, Malaysia will also serve as ASEAN’s rotating chair.

In addition to the Myanmar issue, the two foreign ministers also shared the same concerns about the situation in Palestine.
Marsudi stressed that the two countries are firmly committed to supporting Palestinian independence.
To this end, Indonesia and Malaysia agreed to continue to take firm actions and actively participate in various international forums such as the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and the United Nations (UN), utilize other multilateral avenues, and support Palestine through bilateral efforts.
“I expressed Indonesia’s continued efforts to secure an immediate and permanent ceasefire, unhindered humanitarian access, and preparations for the establishment of a Palestinian state — including recognition and full membership in the United Nations,” she said.
She added that Indonesia would continue to promote a two-state solution.
