US President Joe Biden said it was the honor of his life to serve as president, he chose democracy over a title and now it is time to pass the torch to a younger generation.
“I respect this office. I love my country more. It has been the honor of my life to serve as your president, but with democracy on the line, I think this is more important than any title,” he said.

“I gain strength and joy from working for the American people, but the sacred mission of perfecting our union is not about me. It’s about you. Your families. Your future. It’s about We the People.
“America will have to choose between forward movement or backward movement, between hope or hatred, between unity or division.
“We have to decide, do we still believe in honesty, decency, respect, freedom, justice and democracy?
“This is a moment where we no longer view those who disagree with us as enemies, but as fellow Americans. Can we do that? Does character still matter in public life? I’m sure you know the answers to these questions.”
Biden went on to say that he believes his record as president deserves a second term, but nothing can stand in the way of saving democracy, “including personal ambition.”
“I think the best way forward is to pass the torch to a new generation. That’s the best way to unite our country. You know, there is always a time and place for people with many years of experience in public life,” he said.
“But there is also a time and place for new voices, fresh voices, young voices. And that time and place is now.”
