The 26-strong qualifiers for the 2026 Women’s World Championships, which will be held in Rwanda from August 19 to 25, have been announced, with one of the best scorers in the local tournament, Régina Diatta, being left out, a controversial omission.
With her outstanding performances, Régina Diatta became one of the rising stars of the National 1 Women’s Championship. She was also one of the pillars of the Ziguinchor team that reached the play-offs this season. Cemt staff was frustrated that Régina Diatta was not selected for the Women’s National Team as a local player and the top scorer of the tournament: “It was really strange to see the list of 26 pre-selected players preparing for the national team, 7 of whom were locals and none of the best scorers in our tournament. So what was the point of standing out in this tournament without pre-selection?”.
According to Regina’s platform, she played in 19 games and scored 313 goals. Amazingly, despite the fatigue and difficulties, she was still one of the best scorers in this tournament, averaging 16 points in 19 games, just like her potential.
