NASSAU | Thanks to the success of the SAC Alumni Association (SACAA) Beacon Awards Gala, seven St. Augustine College students received scholarships to aid in their educational pursuits.

SACAA President Dr. Anastacia M. Brown said the commitment of SAC alumni plays an important role in “changing students’ lives and creating a better future.”

Three of the students were recent SAC graduates and each received $5,000 toward college tuition. The remaining four students each received $3,000 to help pay for SAC tuition. Students submitted essays to SACAA describing their goals and current situations to help them receive the scholarships.

Noting the tangible impact of the Beacon Awards Gala, Dr. Brown encouraged SAC alumni to purchase tickets and tables for the next gala, which will be held at the Atlantis Resort on October 19, 2024. Tickets are currently available for purchase on Mobile Assist.

“We encourage all alumni to continue paying dues and ask that each class contribute a minimum of $3,000 per year to the SAC Alumni Fund,” she said.

“Your investment in our students is priceless. By supporting our events, purchasing advertising and tables, or donating directly to the fund, you will make a significant impact.”

“We also extend our sincere thanks to President Marici Thompson and her administration, the SAC Board of Directors, Mr. Douglas Hanna of the SAC Class of 2001, and the students and their families who came out to support this event. The seeds you sow today will return to you a hundredfold.”

“A special thank you to our former president, Cherrele Cartwright, who started the ball to raise funds for our students. Let’s honor her legacy by purchasing a ticket to the 4th Annual Beacon Awards and Gala, which will be held at Atlantis on October 19, 2024, with the theme, “Junkanoo Masquerade: A Celebration of Red.” Tickets are $300; proceeds will benefit the SAC Alumni Scholarship Fund.”
