According to reports from Sports Reporter, former Dynamos FC striker Evans Gwekwerere has received a portion of the $27,000 owed to him by Dembare to secure the Glamour Boys’ participation in the upcoming 2024/25 CAF Confederations Cup.

Gwekwerere claimed that he was owed $27,000 during his time with his former employer, Dynamos.

The intervention of the Football Federation of Zimbabwe (FUZ) helped Gwekwerere get in touch with the Confederation of African Football (CAF), which was ready to block Dynamos from participating in the Confederations Cup.

Under the Canadian Soccer Federation’s men’s club licensing rules, a club must prove it has no outstanding disputes related to overdue payments before it can receive the necessary license to participate in inter-club competitions.

In response, Dynamos executives reportedly pooled their resources and paid Gwekwerere $17,000 and agreed to settle the remaining amount in installments over the next three months.

The two sides reportedly agreed to reduce the total compensation to $20,000, rather than the $27,000 the player had initially requested.

Part of the first payment came from ticket sales for the Dynamos’ recent home game against local rivals the Highlanders. A source said:

To be exact, there was only one player, not three, and that was Evans. He had a particular case that had made its way through the courts, and he had won it long ago.

Since then, the club has not paid him what he is owed and the current executives have simply inherited the debt. The issue has been ignored and the club has not complied with court orders for years.

The player sought help from FUZ, who we believe advised him to report the case to the Confederation of African Football before participating in the Confederations Cup.

Today, the rules do not allow teams that are in debt and owe money to their players to compete and we believe that Evans and FUZ took advantage of this and approached CAF.

This situation means that the club will not be able to meet the criteria for the club’s licence and we will not be participating in African safaris.

Dynamo will face Zambian club ZESCO United in the first two-legged preliminary round of the 2024/25 CAF Confederations Cup, which will be held from August 16 to 25.
