Michelle Tau has made history by being crowned Miss Lesotho, becoming the first Lesotho athlete to qualify for the Olympics in 20 years. The under-49kg athlete qualified for the 2024 Paris Olympics at the African Qualifying Tournament in Dakar. Tau is known for her gentle and shy demeanor off the mat, but in the ring she transforms into “beast mode”. Tau is determined to become the first Basotho athlete to reach the Olympic podium. Inspired by her parents, both former national team members, Tau overcame training challenges and moved to Spain in 2023. Her journey from Lesotho’s capital, Maseru, to the Olympic stage symbolizes her belief that “anything is possible”. She will be one of four Basotho taekwondo athletes and the third Lesotho woman to qualify for the Olympics, following Lecleli Alina Tame and Linio Mochesane.
