Addis Ababa, July 23, 2024 (Address) Two-time Olympic tennis gold medalist Andy Murray announced on Tuesday that competing in the Paris Olympics will be his final tournament before retirement.
The Scottish player won the gold medal in the 2012 London Olympics, defeating Roger Federer in the final, and successfully defended his title at the 2016 Rio Olympics.
Murray wrote on his X-tip: “I’m in Paris for my last Olympic tennis match.”
The 37-year-old Scotsman has dealt with various injuries and undergone surgeries over the years.
Tennis was an Olympic sport from 1896 to 1924. After a 60-year absence, tennis returned to the sport in 1988.
According to Reuters, competition at the Paris Olympics will begin on July 27, and Murray, who made his debut at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, will compete in singles and doubles events in his fifth and final Olympics.
Since turning professional in 2005, Murray has won 46 singles titles, including three Grand Slam titles, 14 Masters titles and two Olympic gold medals.
