The lounge, with its oversized sofas and exquisite granite bar, creates a sense of comfort, while the atrium-style windows and Juliet balcony create a secluded atmosphere, keeping you away from the hustle and bustle of the neighborhood. The wood and stone of the library complement the natural light, and the gauzy curtains block the afternoon sun. There is a sophistication in restraint, and all elements of the renovation reflect purpose.

The Newcastle hotel is the brand’s first property and offers traditional compact rooms and one-bedroom apartments with kitchenettes and lounge areas. We stayed in the former, which was cleverly laid out and luxuriously decorated. It overlooked the historic buildings, car parks and a stretch of the harbour.
Unlike the rest of the room, the shower was spacious.
There’s no room for error in such a small space – luckily the LN team have done just that. The layout follows the format of the Canberra and Sydney hotels, with everything in its place, including a slim Nespresso coffee machine in the cupboards. The shower is large for such a small space, and the bathroom is well-appointed – with luxurious Byredo Bal d’Afrique bath products that make for a nice scent.

The food selection is limited, but the portions are plentiful. The bar offers evening snacks (creamy City Larder chicken liver parfait with peach and muscat chutney, Mount Zero olives and Marcona almonds) and a continental breakfast in the morning, including muffins, granola and toast. A ground-floor cafe is scheduled to open later this year.
Guests are encouraged to support local restaurants by ordering takeout from the hotel’s “Delivery to Your Door” concierge service, which can be enjoyed in the lounge and library, as well as having a few drinks in the bar. Our pick? The delicious Reggie’s Royale cocktail, which mixes passion fruit liqueur, vermouth and local Earp Distilling rum.
Outing + About
This part of Newey is close to the seafront and bustling with life. Take a scenic 10km walk along the seaside promenade, which stretches from the Seaside Park to Islington Park. The Queens Wharf Hotel is the perfect seaside spot to join the locals for a big beer and schnitzel, but head further afield to the Merriwether Beach Hotel (dine downstairs or at its rooftop restaurant Peregrin) for a top night out. Uprising Bakery in Mayfield is a must for a perfect breakfast pastry and coffee, but the baristas at the LN Lounge Bar make a really fine flat white using St Ali coffee.
