Domestic violence can have devastating consequences. Some incidents have resulted in death, while others have left the victim with severe injuries. Harriet Atieno, 28, shared how her husband beat her on a daily basis, but she could not find grounds for a divorce. Her husband started by yelling at her and using vulgar language. Over time, it got worse and he began to outright beat her.
“It had become a regular thing. The first thing he would do when he got home from get off work was to start an argument and I ended up getting covered in fights. Once he kicked her and broke one of her left ribs. Today she said she thought her husband was going to kill her. In the hospital she always lied to the doctors saying that the injuries were self-inflicted and were only minor.
