The country’s youth unemployment rate is expected to drop from 22.9% in the first quarter of this year to 19.2% in the second quarter.
The forecast is based on the latest Labour Force Survey report released by the National Statistics Office.
Specifically, a total of 7,903 young people were unemployed in the second quarter of this year, including 4,187 males and 3,716 females.
This shows that the male youth unemployment rate (18.9%) is slightly lower than the female youth unemployment rate (19.6%).
The youth unemployment rate in urban areas is higher, at 21.7%, while in rural areas it is only 16.7%.
The youth unemployment rate refers to the percentage of unemployed people aged 15 to 24 in the labor force (i.e. the economically active population of the same age group).
The report said the overall national unemployment rate is expected to fall to 3.7% in the second quarter from 4.1% in the first quarter. This means the total number of unemployed people will fall to 13,505 from 15,712 in the first quarter. In the second quarter.
The unemployment rate for women in the second quarter was 4.5%, higher than the 3.1% for men.

According to the report, the country’s total working-age population (all persons aged 15 years and above) is 596,926.
In the second quarter of this year, the economically active population was 368,921, of which 355,415 were employed, with an employment rate of 96.3%.
The male employment rate is 96.9%, higher than the 95.5% of females.
In terms of industry distribution, the service industry has the largest number of employees, accounting for 45.3%; the number of employees in agriculture is 41.2%; and the number of employees in industry is 13.5%.
By tsongkhapa and dzong, the highest number of employed people is in Thimphu dzong with 56,388 people, followed by Paro dzong with 26,941 people, and Samchi dzong with 25,216 people.
By age group, the largest number of employed people were in the 30 to 34 age group with 63,295 people, followed by the 35 to 39 age group with 52,292 people and the 40 to 44 age group with 47,943 people.
In the second quarter, the labor force participation rate was 61.8, with the highest rate in Ha’a at 79.2 and the lowest in Thimphu at 52.7.
In terms of age groups, the labor force participation rate is highest in the 40-44 age group (80.4), and lowest in the 15-19 age group, at 8.9.
The labor force participation rate provides information about the current size of the labor supply available for work relative to the entire working-age population.
