Biden’s decision made Trump ‘lose his cool’

Biden announced his decision to withdraw from the presidential race yesterday. Many people declared Biden’s decision respectful, including Iceland’s First Lady Elissa Reid. Two political analysts interviewed by the news agency agreed with this, because many people in his position would take the risk of running despite the low probability of winning.

“But if it succeeds, and it succeeds in preventing Donald Trump from being elected president, I think it will be a great move in the entire political history,” said Þorbjörg Sigríður Gunnlaugsdóttir, a Vidresnar MP and a particular lover of American politics.

She said it was a historic decision.

“The sitting president of the United States, and certainly the sitting president of most of the world, doesn’t leave office unless they have to. Most of them stay in office for two terms unless they are ousted in an election. The last time we saw that was Johnson in 1968, and Truman in ’52. It’s a big decision,” Þorbjörg says.

Doubts about the president’s mental stamina, poor debate performances and repeated gaffes have heightened pressure on Biden to resign.

“He can see with his own eyes that this is not working. People don’t know where he will be in four months, let alone four years. Of course, that’s what it’s all about – electing a president for the next four years. So let’s respect him and see it with our own eyes,” said Gísli Freyr Valdórsson, a journalist and political commentator.

The task ahead is daunting

Vice President Kamala Harris, who is considered the most likely candidate to take over as the Democratic presidential nominee, made her first public appearance today since yesterday’s news and praised the outgoing president.

“Our President Joe Biden fights for the interests of the American people every day. We are so grateful for his service to our country,” Kamala said in her speech today.

Harris is considered more likely than Biden to defeat Donald Trump in the November election. So far, Harris has received lower approval ratings than Trump. These polls were conducted when Biden was still a candidate.

“It’s going to be an uphill battle for the Democrats no matter who comes,” said Giselle. But he noted that the survey doesn’t tell the whole story in the U.S. Election results often depend on voter turnout and which social groups flock to the polls.

Trump lost the ball

Trump reacted angrily to the news on social media yesterday, saying he was forced to restart his campaign because of Democratic betrayal.

“Since everyone around Joe, including his doctors and the fraudulent media, knows he is unfit to run or be President, shouldn’t the Republican Party be punished for their fraud? I’m just asking,” Trump wrote yesterday on his social network “Truth Social.”

Keighley said Trump’s response was a strong signal of dissatisfaction with the latest trends.

“After he was shown this fatal attack last weekend, he thought, if I may say so, ball And stay humble about the project. But yesterday he kind of lost it. It seemed like there was something, I don’t know if you should call it a panic, but there was something that triggered the way he started doing this,” said Keighley.

Þorbjörg made it clear that the decision hurt Trump and his team.

“Trump would certainly prefer Biden to continue.” Of course, this shows the strength of the decision, and it may well be reversed now.”
