Philippine broadcaster ABS-CBN will become the latest broadcaster to adapt the hit Japanese TV series “Mother” after it reached a script format agreement with Nippon TV.
According to ABS-CBN, Saving Grace will go into production “soon” and will air in 2025. This is the tenth remake of Mother, which first aired on Japanese television in 2010 and has become Asia’s most exported scripted show.
Adaptations have also been made in Turkey, South Korea, Ukraine, Thailand, China, France, Spain, Saudi Arabia and Mongolia.
The story revolves around a struggling teacher, played by Julia Montes, who impulsively kidnaps a young student who is being abused by her biological mother. Things get complicated as the adventure turns into a nationwide manhunt.
“It’s a beautiful story that really revolves around the importance of family and a mother’s love, and promises to be a very moving and heartwarming series that will resonate deeply with Filipino and non-Filipino audiences around the world,” said ABS-CBN Chief Operating Officer Cory Vidanes.
