Baghdad (Sanaa) – The second Baghdad International Anti-Drug Conference opened today in the Iraqi capital Baghdad, attended by interior ministers from neighboring Iraq, including Interior Minister Major General Mohammad Rahmon.
In his opening speech at the conference, Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammad Shaya Al-Sultanni stressed that his government has initiated measures to eradicate drug trafficking gangs and noted that Iraq is ready to coordinate with its neighbors.
In his speech, Iraqi Interior Minister Abdulmir Sumari said that the drug threat is growing and we need an international document to control this scourge, stressing the need for cooperation and coordination in combating the drug menace.
Sumari also stressed that without fruitful cooperation, the drug threat will continue, noting that the Iraqi Interior Ministry has taken several measures and well-thought-out plans to hunt down drug dealers and overthrow major drug traffickers.
