Fiji FACT finalist Navua is aiming to go one step further and win the 2024 Cock/Scoop Ice Cream Giants Competition in Suva.

Chairman Rajiv Prasad said the team’s preparations for the match were going well and the return of coach Syed Ali from the United States had greatly boosted the team’s morale.

“In the past two weeks, as our coach was away in the United States to attend to some family matters, the senior players took charge of the training and mentored the younger players very well.”

“He is back in the team and under his guidance, we really want to win the BOG. Navua has reached a lot of semifinals and finals in the past few years and we want to make more progress and prove our worth by winning the tournament,” Prasad said.

He said they did not sign any new players in the mid-season transfer window because they believed in local talent and the three Solomon Islands players in the squad brought the required depth and experience.

“We haven’t signed or lost any players, so we have the same squad as at the beginning of the year. We will add some young players but no big names from other teams will join us.”

Commenting on Navua’s group, Prasad said both the groups were drawn equally and the teams that were well prepared and had solid groundwork would advance to the semi-finals.

Fox Engineering Nabua are in Group B with defending champions Labasa, Nadi and Lautoka and will face Extra Supermarket-sponsored Babasiga Lions in the opener on Friday at 7.30pm.
