Jersey Mike’s founder Peter Cancro, Audible founder Don Katz and EUE/Screen Gems chairman emeritus George Cooney are among the 2024 inductees New Jersey Hall of Fame.
The list of honorees includes several well-known entertainers, including legendary actress Meryl Streep, actor Paul Rudd, filmmaker Kevin Smith and director Warren Littlefield.
Former Giants Super Bowl-winning quarterback Phil Simms and former U.S. men’s national soccer team goalie Tim Howard will be honored, along with longtime St. Benedict Preparatory School president Father Ed Leahy and others.
Inductees will be honored during the 16th annual New Jersey Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony at American Dream’s new 10,000 square foot New Jersey Hall of Fame.
The awards ceremony will air on Fox 5 My9 and social media beginning November 13.
New Jersey Hall of Fame President Jon Hansen greeted the group of students.
“The 2024 inductees into the New Jersey Hall of Fame embody New Jersey’s moral values of hard work, determination and courage,” he said. “We are pleased to celebrate the contributions of the 18 new inductees so that future generations can learn about their journeys.”
Other members of this category include:
Guy Talese: A former reporter for The New York Times and Esquire magazine, he was a pioneer in pushing the boundaries of traditional journalism;
Elizabeth Coleman White: Botanist who developed the first cultivated blueberry in the United States
John Forbes Nash: A gifted mathematician from Princeton University, he won the Nobel Peace Prize in Economics;
Avi Wigderson: The Turing Award winner is a computer scientist and Princeton University mathematician known for his groundbreaking insights in computer science;
Geraldine Thompson: She was a social reform pioneer and founder of the VNA Health Group, earning the nickname “The First Lady of New Jersey” for her philanthropic and social service activities;
Dick Barton: The two-time Olympic gold medalist in figure skating is also an Emmy-winning former television sports commentator;
Ron Johnson: An All-American running back and team captain at the University of Michigan, he twice earned All-Pro honors with the New York Giants.
The New Jersey Hall of Fame (NJHOF) honors citizens who have made valuable contributions to society, the state of New Jersey and the world. Since 2008, the NJHOF has inducted more than 230 outstanding individuals and groups into the Hall of Fame through 15 ceremonies.
In June 2024, the New Jersey Hall of Fame opened the nation’s first state-of-the-art entertainment and learning center at American Dream.
