He wants to get Better, Better, Better!
Jack Antonoff announced this week that he has re-recorded his debut Bleachers album. Strange Desirewhich coincides with its tenth anniversary.
The album was first released in July 2014, with its lead single “I want to be betterThe Jersey-based band’s first No. 1 single — born out of “a tough time filled with sonic chaos. Sounds were floating around me, the walls of the hotel room were echoing with the vocals,” Antonoff said. Wrote on Instagram“(…) That’s the sound I call Bleachers. That feeling of being there but not in the center. Observing and dreaming. Shouting in the corner. In the shadows. I wrote from that place of being misunderstood, and I still do.”
Bleachers’ debut album, Strange Desirewhich will be ten years old this July.
The Bergen County-raised producer and musician, now 40, who often waxes poetic about his native New Jersey sitting in the “shadow” of neighboring Manhattan, explained that the album will feature “all 11 songs, re-written a decade ago, but without the armor I needed.”
“Whenever you release an album, you’re trying to give people more context; give them as much context as possible about who you are at that moment,” Antonoff said. Tell New Jersey Earlier this year.
The title of the project has been slightly changed –Longing for strangers— a nod to the audience his band has built up over the years: “Writing these songs wasn’t just a strange desire,” Antonov reflected in the post. “There were things I didn’t know. I was looking for you: my people.”

These strangers are turning up in droves on Bleachers’ 2024 international tour, which kicked off a few days after the band released its eponymous fourth album in March. Last month, they played Antonoff’s sold-out Shadow of the City festival at the Stone Pony Summer Stage, which is currently set to end at Madison Square Garden in October.
Previously, Antonoff recorded several albums with his longtime collaborator and close friend Taylor Swift.
First Song Longing for strangers It will be released on August 2. The full album will be released on September 6.
