SUSHA, Azerbaijan, July 21. Azerbaijan’s position is clear. Hikmet Hajiyev, director of the Foreign Policy Department of the Azerbaijani Presidential Administration and presidential assistant, told reporters: “Azerbaijan hopes that Armenia will end its territorial claims against Azerbaijan on a constitutional basis.”
He noted that if the constitution of any country includes sovereignty claims over the territory of another country, such behavior must be stopped.
“We understand that the constitution is an internal matter of each state. However, if there are claims to the territory of another state in the constitution, then these claims should be terminated and the legal framework should be in a form that completely terminates territorial claims so that we can move forward. Azerbaijan proposes that Armenia and Azerbaijan jointly call on the OSCE to end the activities of the Minsk Group. Because there is no need to keep such an institution as the Minsk Group. If there is no conflict, then what is the point of the Minsk Group’s existence? In this regard, Azerbaijan proposes to the Armenian side that as a temporary approach, we can agree on the basic principles that may form the basis for good-neighborly relations between the two countries. I would not call this a temporary peace agreement. It should be taken into account that in 2021, the Azerbaijani side became the initiator of the principles that will form the basis of the entire peace process,” he added.
