The Summer Centre, established by the Ministry of Education and Higher Education in collaboration with the Ministry of Sports and Youth, has received a huge demand from both male and female students, confirming the great benefits achieved by its previous programmes, which in turn has opened the way for a large number of them to participate in its various purposeful activities.
The program of the 23 summer centers and youth organizations spread across the country includes a wide range of scientific, social, recreational, sports, artistic, technological, awareness-raising, athletic and creative activities that will develop students’ talents, perfect their potential and personality, develop their abilities and invest their free time, and provide them with everything they need to serve their community and take responsibility for … their homeland.
In this context, the Doha Girls’ Centre at Bayan No. 1 Girls Primary School is witnessing significant momentum and widespread demand for summer activities among girl students, organizing various awareness, technical and training workshops for different age groups.
Ms. Sheikha Hussein Abdullah Al Babusser, Chairperson and Director of the Doha Girls Center, stressed the importance of summer activities and their greatest benefits to male and female students, saying in a statement to Qatar News Agency (QNA): “Our slogan is: The theme of the summer of 2024 is “Summer of Excellence”, and given the comprehensive cooperation between the Ministry of Sports, the Ministry of Youth, the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Higher Education, this event is truly special, based on the many benefits of practice. Summer activities provide participants with the opportunity to develop personal and social skills, as the summer activities provide them with the opportunity to develop communication, teamwork and leadership skills.”
She pointed out that practicing summer cultural and sports activities can also promote health, physical fitness and wellness, and discover talents and hobbies, allowing participants to explore new interests and hobbies, develop themselves in art, sports and other activities. In addition to enhancing self-confidence and facing new challenges, it also enhances their confidence in themselves and their abilities, and also makes summer activities an important embodiment and expression of the all-round development of participants.
Regarding the quality of the programmes and activities offered, Ms. Babasser explained that the Doha Girls Centre team developed a comprehensive programme of activities, programmes and events in order to include all aspects and programmes offered to participants, such as sports and physical activities, recreational competitions, educational programmes and training workshops such as “Recycle Me”, cheese blending and painting workshops, including plastering, relief carving, gift making, proper nutrition, creative narrative thinking for children, frame decoration, self-defence, teamwork skills, and how to protect the planet (for the age group of 7 to 12 years old).
As for the youth category, she said the training and awareness programmes and workshops involved activities and programmes with titles such as “Be the Best Version of Yourself, Arab Youth Day, First Year of Marriage, Leadership and Decision-Making Skills” besides some of the youth initiatives involved, including “How do I express… about my feelings and how to be a leader”.
In a statement to QNA, the Chairperson and Director of the Doha Girls Center confirmed that the participation and interaction of the participants was very positive and wonderful, and the parents were also great, noting that from the target group of 140 to 200 female students who attend the center’s summer activities every day, the success of these activities has proven to be varied and shaped by their nature and quality and by what each one offers and provides, which generally contributes to the overall growth of the participants, including the development of their personality, skills and future life.
Furthermore, Mayasa Mubarak Al-Dosari, a student, Siham Al-Khater, a volunteer and participant, and Afrah Murad, Director of Youth Activities and Programs at the Doha Girls Center, stressed the importance of the summer center and its role in raising awareness and promoting youth culture, and developing their talents and abilities in various fields, which makes it necessary and important to attract and recruit both male and female students to acquire many scientific and life skills and knowledge, and to establish true and moral values in their souls, which will bring the desired benefits to them, their families, their society and their country.
The Summer Centre, which started on July 1 and lasts for 5 weeks, has become an annual tradition, aiming to utilize the summer vacation time to engage male and female students in various diverse and useful activities and projects, and to provide them with a variety of knowledge that encourages them to integrate into scientific and practical life, so that they can flexibly respond to the requirements of the times and face challenges with wisdom and perseverance.
These centres in schools inside and outside Doha are staffed with trained administrative and educational staff to manage and operate these centres efficiently during working hours, which are 4 hours daily from 9am to 1pm.
