Brigadier General Saeed Al Hajri, Director of the Electronic Investigation Department at the General Directorate of Criminal Investigation at Dubai Police, revealed that the number of communications received through the “eCrime” platform since its launch in 2018 has reached 200,000, including reports and complaints. All investigations have been processed thanks to modern and innovative technologies introduced by Dubai Police in various fields to protect society.
He added that the platform’s services have greatly improved the response speed to such crimes and reports, as reporting cybercrime used to take a lot of time and effort, but after the launch of the platform www.ecrime.ae The process becomes faster, easier and smoother as the time factor of such crimes helps a lot in combating it.
He warned the public against misusing social media sites by using offensive expressions such as swearing, cursing and slander in a manner that is inconsistent with public morality or in a manner that harms others and results in defaming others because of the harm they cause to themselves and damage one’s reputation, honour and social status.
He said that e-crime does not focus solely on the emirate of Dubai, but transmits the information it receives to security sector partners in various emirates of the country, as cybercrime transcends national borders and is not governed by a specific geographical scope.
He pointed out that Dubai Police takes strict measures against those monitored by the platform and they receive every message, communication and report with great care and re-contact its owner to provide him with help and support when he needs it or to obtain more details in order to process the information later, reveal its dimensions and control the persons involved if the information is related to a crime.
He praised the collaboration of community members from 200 countries with Dubai Police, who shared important information, complaints and reports through the platform over the past year.

According to Federal Decree No. 34 of 2021 on combating rumors and cybercrime, Article 43 states that anyone who insults another person or attributes an incident to another person so that he or she is punished shall be sentenced to imprisonment and a fine of not less than AED 1 million, AED 250,000 and not more than AED 500,000, or any of them, or by using an information network, information technology means or information system.
