The United States on Friday imposed new sanctions on Iran, targeting four entities and one individual with ties to Iran’s Aerospace Industries Organization.
The U.S. Treasury Department said in a statement on its website that the sanctions target four entities related to the “Rayyan Rushd Afzar” company, which was included in the U.S. sanctions list and was responsible for purchasing a significant part of Iran’s drone program.
The sanctions also target “Afshin Khawaja, an executive at Iran Aerospace Industries, a company under the Ministry of Defense that oversees the manufacturing of the country’s drones,” the statement said.
“Today’s action reinforces the United States’ commitment to disrupting Iran’s production and proliferation of lethal drones, which Russia continues to use against Ukraine and Tehran’s terrorist proxies continue to use against our military,” said Brian Nelson, the Treasury Department’s undersecretary for terrorism and financial BroadCast Unitedligence.
