El Salvador defeated the Dominican Republic 1-0 in Group B of the 2024 CONCACAF World Cup in Mexico.

Due to the rain, in the 28th minute, goalkeeper Daniel Franco was seriously out of the penalty area, and Caribbean midfielder Aiden Kokoska hit the post with his right foot, but the ball went wide of the El Salvador team, leaving one of the clear options for the Dominican Republic.

In the 36th minute, Diego Guardado fouled Dominican Elian Concepción, Panamanian referee Fernando Morón marked the penalty, and goalkeeper Daniel Franco blocked Yordy Álvarez’s penalty. After that, the game was tied at the end of the first half.

In the 54th minute of the second half, Steven Guerra had a clear chance to score after a free kick, but the ball was deflected by Dominican goalkeeper Edwin Frias.

However, the goal came in the 62nd minute by Christopher Argueta, with Steven Guerra assisting the striker with a stroke of genius that pierced the Caribbean defence.

El Salvador will play its second match against Honduras on Tuesday and will qualify for the next round with a win.
