Planning for the future

As the climate continues to change and extreme weather events are likely to increase, nature-based solutions will play an important role in climate action. Using Earth observation data and products such as DEA WIT and DE Africa WIT, policymakers, researchers and industry can better understand the importance of wetlands and mangroves. These insights can be used to make data-based decisions to prevent risks to communities, fragile ecosystems and critical infrastructure.

How to participate

You can find out more about the program through the Digital Earth Australia and Digital Earth Africa program websites.

Digital Earth Africa – www.digitalearthafrica.org/

For map access to DEA Water Watch, DE Africa Water Watch, DEA Water, DE Africa Water, and many other Landsat-based services, see Digital Globe Australia Map and Digital Globe Africa Map.

All DE Australia and DE Africa services are accessible through the DEA and DE Africa Sandboxes, free learning and analysis environments. The Sandboxes contain sample data and Jupyter Notebooks that allow you to experiment with DEA and DE Africa’s Earth observation datasets and explore proof-of-concept applications.

About Landsat

Since 1972, Landsat satellites have continuously captured images of Earth’s land surface, surface waters, and coastal areas, providing continuous data to help land managers and policymakers make informed decisions about natural resources and the environment. The mission is jointly managed by the U.S. Geological Survey and NASA. Data from Landsat satellites are distributed by the U.S. Geological Survey’s Earth Resources Observation and Science (EROS) Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
