Sory Condé, a colleague of the deceased, explained the circumstances of the incident during the interrogation. “The four of us were in a cave belonging to our group. The body of the young gold miner, who was in his twenties, will be transported to Nzerekore province for burial.
The tragedy came as the Ministry of Territorial Administration and Decentralization, the Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development, and the Ministry of Mines and Geology issued a joint press release imposing a nationwide moratorium on artisanal gold and diamond mining activities.
