The National Civil Defence Commission has issued a notice asking the general public to take precautionary measures against the heavy rainfall that is expected to affect the country on Friday afternoon and throughout the day on Saturday.
Civil protection advice
“We have issued a notification so that everyone throughout the country pays attention to the information provided and on this basis we also ask to take into account the risk areas that we have already mentioned above. “We have been through the entire winter until today,” said Luis Alonso Amaya, director of the Civil Protection Agency.
Identify risk areas
The official urged the public to determine if there is a risk of river or stream flooding or landslides and take the necessary precautions. “Recognize if there is a possibility of cable movement near where you live and pay close attention to the conditions around our homes, especially if we are also at risk of river overflows. Always pay attention to the information needed to assess certain areas and especially follow these recommendations,” Amaya said.
Dormitory Preparation
Shelter director Josue Garcia also said they have fully equipped shelters ready in case of evacuation. “These shelters were prepared during previous events, which allowed us to pay attention to the rainfall immediately in advance,” he said.
Origins of climate phenomena
The Minister of Environment and Natural Resources, Fernando Lopez, reported that the phenomenon comes from the Colombian coast and will bring rain to the entire country.
