this Health Minister Ximena Aguilera, This Friday, UnitedHealth Group (UHG), the controller of Empresas Banmédica, announced that it would soon sell its operations in the country and South America.
The Secretary of State clarified that This announcement is not related to the entry into force of the Isapres short-term law. The bill requires insurers to refund excess costs to their affiliates and adjust single-factor tables.
“UnitedHealth Group has decided to sell all of its operations in the Southern Cone region, including Brazil, Colombia and Peru. It is independent of Shortlaw. They say that the situation on the continent does not generate the profit expectations they want,” the minister explained.
“Situations arise here that relate to what happened during the pandemic, when the previous government was setting prices; or the issue of coverage for extended maternity leave,” he added.
“The Supreme Court ruling and the short legal order that allowed for this response allowed Isap to be free of interference today. “Without a short law, we would be in a much worse situation with Isapres,” Aguilera said.
The minister also clarified that “coverage of affiliates is not at risk, as it is a long process and there are certain guarantees from a Chilean regulatory point of view.”
