Jokowi receives Zayed Medal from UAE President

JAKARTA (ANTARA) – President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) received the Order of Zayed from President of the United Arab Emirates Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan in recognition of his outstanding efforts to strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries.

The honour was bestowed on Indonesia’s seventh president during a bilateral meeting between the two leaders at Qasr Al Watan, the presidential palace in Abu Dhabi, on Wednesday.

The Order of Zayed is the highest civilian honour bestowed by the UAE leadership on world leaders and heads of state. Recipients include China’s Xi Jinping, India’s Narendra Modi and Russia’s Vladimir Putin.

Indonesian President-elect Prabowo Subianto also received a similar award, according to an Indonesian government press statement received by ANTARA on Thursday.

The UAE leader reportedly said that awarding Jokowi the Order of Zayed was a testament to his appreciation for the Indonesian president’s great efforts to advance bilateral relations.

The Emirati leader, known as MBZ in Indonesia, also prayed for the good health of President Joko Widodo and the progress and prosperity of the Indonesian people.

President Joko Widodo expressed great appreciation and pride for the medal, and said that awarding him the Order of Zayed reflects the special relationship between the two countries.

On another occasion, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan also awarded the Order of the Union to Luhut binsar Panjaitan, Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment, in recognition of his contribution to strengthening the strategic partnership between the UAE and Indonesia.

Meanwhile, as a result of their bilateral meeting on Wednesday, the two presidents witnessed the announcement of eight outcomes of the agreement:

  • a memorandum of understanding between Indonesia’s Ministry of State-Owned Enterprises and UAE real estate developer Eagle Hills on tourism and air transport;
  • The Nusa Tenggara Capital Authority (OIKN) and the Dubai International Financial Centre Authority signed a memorandum of understanding on the establishment of a financial centre in Nusa Tenggara;
  • a memorandum of understanding between Indonesia’s National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) and the Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation (ENEC) on nuclear energy;
  • Memorandum of Understanding between Bank Indonesia (BI) and the UAE Central Bank (UAECB) on payment systems;
  • Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Finance of Indonesia and the UAE on Public Financial Management;
  • Framework agreement between PT Dirgantara Indonesia and PAL Aerospace for the transfer of maritime patrol aircraft and anti-submarine warfare technology;
  • PLN Icon+ signed a memorandum of understanding with the UAE’s state-owned renewable energy company to conduct joint assessments and commercial and industrial studies of rooftop solar installations in Indonesia;
  • Indonesia’s Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment has signed a memorandum of understanding with the UAE’s Mohamed bin Zayed Species Conservation Foundation to establish the Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed and Joko Widodo International Mangrove Research Center in Bali.
