Agio Pereira, Minister of the Council of Ministers Presidency and interlocutor for the Greater Sunrise discussion, met with Steve Bracks, Australia’s Special Representative for the Greater Sunrise Project, in Darwin on 19 July.
The meeting aimed to take stock of the situation, share information and perspectives within the mandates of the Timorese and Australian representatives, discuss the Greater Sunrise initiative, and consider what the next phase might look like and what objectives could be pursued together.
During the meeting, Steve Brax discussed his recent visit to the South Coast of Timor-Leste and shared his impressions and views on the future development of the Suai Supply Base. Minister Agio Pereira thanked Steve Brax for his visit to the South Coast and the project area communities. Minister Agio expressed the hope that the two representatives will continue to work together to achieve goals that benefit both Timor-Leste and Australia.
The two envoys also made a joint visit to the Ichthys onshore LNG processing facility at Bladin Point near Darwin, where refrigerated gas from the Ichthys field is converted into liquid. The visit was organized by Chris Wilson, INPEX senior vice president of operations.
The purpose of the visit was to closely observe the installation and assembly of all modules, which is very important for all processes, especially LNG liquefaction units 1 and 2. During the visit to the LNG plant, INPEX said that it would take several years to install all modules up to 6 and to be fully operational, with a total estimated cost of $40 billion. Ichthys LNG is a joint venture between INPEX Group companies (operator), main partner Total Energies and the Australian subsidiaries of CPC Corporation Taiwan, Osaka Gas, Kansai Electric Power, JERA and Toho Gas.
