Bob Newhart, the American comedian whose comedy became one of the most celebrated television stars of his era, has died at age 94, his publicist announced Thursday.
The Chicago-based comedian was an accountant before he found fame as a comedian, and his deadpan delivery has earned him widespread acclaim.
He died at his home in Los Angeles after a series of brief illnesses, his longtime publicist, Jerry Digney, said in a statement.
Born on September 5, 1929 in suburban Illinois, Newhart studied business management and was drafted into the U.S. Army to fight in the Korean War.
He briefly studied law, but quit to work as an accountant, while also moonlighting as a comedian and writer.
