Yemen’s former Minister of Endowments, Judge Ahmed Atiya, published a blog post on the “X” platform saying that the poet “Bel Obeid” died of thirst after getting lost in the desert, and his body was found near the “Al-Obaid Uqla” region in the desert of the Shabwa province in the east of the country.

The deceased won the second place in the “Million Poets” competition in 2008, after which he gained fame and settled in the UAE for many years before returning to Yemen and living in the “Armaa” area of Shabwa in 2021, continuing his creative career.

The late poet’s poetry is profound and eloquent, inspired by the ancient civilization of Yemen and has a distinct contemporary spirit and modern flavor.

Although his greatest achievements were not in classical poetry, he created many extraordinary works in it, as he said: If our fox becomes a wolf/and our mother’s hoopoe becomes a crow/we call flatterers logic/we become the right department/because distance is better than condemnation/the disappearance of glory does not “then come back.”

Many icons of literature and poetry in the country mourned the deceased, stressing that his death was a great loss to the entire right-wing culture.
