Mr. Suranga Jayalath, Chairman of ABU Intellectual Property and Law Committee (IPLC), participated in the 57thday The WIPO General Assembly (GA) meeting in Geneva, Switzerland.
He attended the WIPO General Assembly to promote the adoption of the proposed WIPO Broadcasting Treaty on behalf of the Asian Broadcasting Union members, and during his week in Geneva he held numerous meetings with different WIPO Member States and other stakeholders.
He successfully convinced the Chair of the World Intellectual Property Organization’s Standing Committee on Copyright and Related Rights (SCCR) to hold two SCCR sessions in 2025. The ABU Legal Department appreciated Mr. Jayalath’s efforts in advocating for the proposed broadcasting treaty on behalf of ABU members.
