The assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump has sparked unprecedented support among his supporters. The tragic event was quickly transformed into a symbol of resilience and determination by pro-Trump activists, who increased gestures of solidarity and adopted new rally logos.
At the center of the Republican convention in Milwaukee, an atmosphere of enthusiasm and unity prevailed among delegates and supporters. Unexpected accessories have become symbols of the support movement: a bandage on the right ear and a T-shirt with an image of Trump raising his fist.
Stacey Goodman, a Republican representative from Arizona, proudly displayed a bandage on her right ear, mimicking the one the former president wore after the attack. For her, the gesture was more than just a show of sympathy: “It’s a sign of solidarity and support. We love him, we love his family, and we can’t wait to have him back in the White House,” she told BFMTV.
A similar sentiment was shared by Ray Michaels, a representative from Arizona who was wearing similar clothing. He expressed an almost mystical admiration for Trump: “If he’s going through something, we want to go through something. We love him, admire him, respect him for what he’s done. He’s like one of our founding fathers.”
The image of Trump raising his fist and shouting “Let’s fight” at a Pennsylvania rally after the attack quickly became iconic. Now, the scene is printed on T-shirts sold at conventions and has achieved remarkable success among activists.
Lynne, an avid supporter, expressed her desire to buy one of these T-shirts: “It means a lot to me, it shows that he is fighting for us”. She added firmly: “‘Let’s fight, let’s fight’ is his rallying cry, and I really believe he will do a good job for us. He has done it before, he just needs to get the country on track again.”
The spinoffs have been so popular that Kathy, a saleswoman at the convention booth, has a hard time keeping them in stock: “It’s hard to keep them in stock. It’s a great accomplishment. Unfortunately, people want the T-shirt because they know it’s a historic moment.”
Charlie Kirk, a pro-Trump activist, even compared the former president to a French historical figure: “This T-shirt shows that he was shot, but he lived. He had a chance to be like Charles de Gaulle.” He went on to show the symbolism of resilience: “Even if you get shot, you can get back up and be stronger than ever. “It symbolizes the American spirit of continuing to fight no matter what they do to us.”
