The South Sudan People’s Movement/Army (SSPM/A), under the leadership of its chairman and commander-in-chief, General Stephen Buyi Rolnyyan, on Thursday refuted claims that its leaders recently travelled to Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, and met with the leader of Sudan’s Rapid Support Forces (RSF), General Mohammed Hamdan Dagalo.

According to a press statement sent to Radio Tamazuj and signed by Engineer Mahafis Mayang Hoth, the official spokesperson of the SSPA at the headquarters in Dajo in the Upper Nile region, the agency said the misleading information was spread by Sixty 4 Tribes Press, a South Sudanese news agency.

The report also said the media falsely claimed that General Bouei was paid $10 million for helping the Rapid Security Forces defeat the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and drive them out of several of their bases during Sudan’s ongoing war.

“Claims that SSPA leaders met in Abu Dhabi along with the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and subsequently travelled to Khartoum to devise an offensive strategy against South Sudan’s oil fields are completely false. Furthermore, Sixty 4 Tribes Press claims that $10 million was transferred to the SSPA after the SSPA seized large swathes of territory in Sudan’s Sennar, Blue Nile and South Kordofan states,” the statement read. “These allegations are baseless and lack credibility. It must be made clear that the SSPA has not signed any agreement and is not involved in the conflict in Sudan.”

“Contrary to reports, our leaders had no contact with the Rapid Rescue Team leadership and were not involved in any joint operations, but left Nairobi earlier this week to take undisclosed security measures and provide emergency medical care to a next of kin who was facing serious health issues.”

The statement said the SSPM/A was firmly committed to the ongoing Tumaini (Hope) Initiative negotiations in Nairobi, Kenya, which is a key platform for the opposition.

“Our country is in desperate need of lasting peace and only through unity and collective efforts can we work towards building a prosperous future,” the statement concluded. “Let us join hands to promote peace and harmony, for it is through this collective resolve that we can pave the way for a better tomorrow. May God bless and peace prevail.”
