According to the Department of Animal Production and Health (DAPH), the daily consumption of eggs in our country has increased by about one million eggs.

DAPH stressed that the daily egg consumption in the country is 70 million eggs, while in the past few months, the number has exceeded 80 million eggs.

The increase in the number of foreign tourists to Sri Lanka due to tourism, the increase in the prices of meat and fish due to various reasons in the past, and the public’s awareness that eggs are a cheap and nutritious food have all contributed to the increase in egg consumption.

Officials from the Ministry of Animal Production and Health highlighted these points during discussions with Agriculture and Plantation Industries Minister Mahinda Amaraweera.

However, since proper information surveys have not been conducted for a long time, the Minister directed the Animal Husbandry Department of the Ministry of Agriculture and Plantation Industries to conduct a consumer survey on the consumption of eggs, milk and meat.
