There are still 41 million coins in circulation Old design banknoteswhich the Czech National Bank has already started withdrawing in 2021. From July 2022, they will not be available for payments.
The older design has a narrower silver band, which is a protective feature that runs vertically across the bill. Also, its color does not change when the bill is tilted. You can also identify the invalid pattern by year or some other protective feature.
The newer – and still valid – note is designed with a wider gold stripe. When the note is slightly tilted or turned, the color changes from brownish purple to green.
The 100, 200, 500, 1,000 and 2,000 kroner notes from 1995 to 1999 can be exchanged at any bank with a cashier and ATMs with maximum deposits. But the easy exchange will only last until the end of June this year, and then it will end.
From July 1, 2024, old banknotes can be exchanged only at branches of the Czech National Bank. There are only seven in the country: Prague, Brno, Ostrava, Pilsen, České Budějovice, Hradec Králové and Ústí nad Labem.

- 2000 Czech Koruna: 1.1 million pieces
- 1000 Czech crowns: 4.5 million pieces
- 500 Czech crowns: 1.9 million pieces
- 200 Czech crowns: 13.5 million pieces
- 100 Czech crowns: 20 million pieces
The Central Bank wants to have only one specimen of each banknote in circulation. According to her, this will not only speed up the machine processing of banknotes, but will also bring significant simplification for Czech residents and foreign tourists.
The only exception is the highest denomination note: the five thousand note. Its 1999 and 2009 models remain in force, with a 2023 model added.
