There is a lot of learning going on at the Fiji Aquatics camp as young players learn the ropes of becoming professional athletes.
The team is made up of players from Fiji Drua (Super Rugby League) and the Northern Hemisphere, all pursuing the same goal in an international testing environment.
Head coach Mick Byrne said it was a great opportunity for the young players to experience and understand what it’s like on tour and the commitment required.
“They get to see some of the pros from the northern hemisphere and it influences them, what they do, what extra things they do, the recovery they do after training, the preventative rehab they do before training and the stuff they do,” Byrne said.
It is up to the individual player to absorb it, which will go a long way towards their personal development in the game.
“They’re taking notes, doing their duties, learning things and all the young players are saying this is what I need to do so it’s a good experience for them,” the head coach added.
The team held its first training session on Tuesday at Mission Valley in San Diego, USA, in preparation for the match against the All Blacks at Snapdragon Stadium at 3.30pm on Saturday.
No one on the team is injured at this time, and halfback Caleb Muntz has returned to practice and is in good shape.
