The Chief Justice of the Peace, Vincent Saint-Villiers, was re-elected as the representative of the Court of First Instance to the Supreme Council of the Judiciary.
On Tuesday, July 16, 2024, Wando Saint-Villier, president of the Court of First Instance of Anche, ran for a second term as deputy to the Court of First Instance of the High Council of Judicial Power. The elections took place in different jurisdictions of the country and at the El Rancho Hotel in the jurisdictions of the Court of First Instance of Port-au-Prince and Croix-des-Bouquets.
In Port-au-Prince, the president was present CSPJMagistrate Jean Joseph Lebrun and the election committee, composed of CSPJ member Me Evens Fils, OPC deputy protector Me Amoce Auguste and Dr. Chantal Noël, representative of the State University of Haiti, supported the president of TPI of Hinche with 141 out of 144 votes, or 97.9%.
Following his reelection, Wando Samut-Villiers pledged to continue working for the interests of the magistrates and to work towards a truly strong and independent judiciary in the country. For members of the judiciary, this reelection marks a critical moment for Haitian justice as the country seeks to strengthen the independence and efficiency of the judiciary, noting that challenges remain numerous, but with strong and committed leadership, we can hope to achieve significant progress in the pursuit of justice and thus fully fulfill its sovereign mission of social regulation.
It should be noted that the Judges of the Court of Appeal will elect their representatives on Tuesday, July 9, 2024, and the Justices of the Peace will elect their representatives on Tuesday, July 23.
