In an interview with Circuito Éxitos, Tuesday, July 16, the social communicator shared worrying figures: “Road accidents involving motorcycles occur every day in Venezuela, in all states of the country. Fatalities are reported every day, and even more than one person is killed in these incidents. 18,000 motorcycles have accidents every year, which means 50 motorcycles every day.”
Rocha explained that many drivers do not have the necessary resources to insure themselves, and in many cases, the affected drivers are under 30 years old.
“A car or a motorcycle is mainly used by people who do not have much purchasing power. Instead, they use the vehicles that are within their reach. (…) Most people who have accidents on motorcycles are under 30 years old. We are talking about young people without insurance, who mostly end up going to the public health system,” he explains.
Among the reasons for the frequent accidents, Rocha highlighted the incorrect use of helmets, which often do not meet safety standards.
“Many times, not only do motorbike drivers not wear helmets, they also carry a second, third or even fourth passenger. In most cases, they even bring children along. “We are also seeing an increasing number of motorbike riders using Venezuela’s roads to transport large items, such as televisions, refrigerators, gas cylinders,” he noted.
