Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova expressed her country’s support for the initiative. In an official statement, she welcomed this “noble” and promising approach of the Sahel leaders. “These days we heard about the creation of the Alliance of Sahel States. As a result, on July 1, Niamey held its first summit with the Presidents of Burkina Faso, Ibrahim Traoré, Niger, Abdourahmane Tiani and Mali, Assimi Goita,” she said.

Zakharova stressed the importance of the new federation, which aims to consolidate the member states and ensure their security and economic prosperity. She also stressed the need for coordination at the level of the armed forces and cooperation in key areas such as agriculture, finance and the economy.
