Kenyan authorities have confirmed two deaths as a result of the shooting. However, Kenyan media reports, including the Citizen Digital website, said three people had died. The injured also included TV journalist Kameme Waneri, who was shot by police while hiding from tear gas.
Protests against planned tax increases broke out on June 18 and have not stopped since. According to a report by the state-run Kenya National Human Rights Commission, at least 39 people have been killed since the demonstrations began. Other sources say 53 people have died in the unrest, including those killed on Tuesday.
