The National Police of Puerto Rico (NPPR) reported this Tuesday that it is investigating a robbery that occurred this afternoon in the parking lot of the Selectos supermarket on Highway 167 in Bayamon.
According to preliminary information, an 81-year-old octogenarian stated that when she was at the above-mentioned location, a masked man got out from the passenger side of the vehicle, approached her by intimidation, and tried to forcibly snatch her wallet by grabbing his shoulder, throwing it out and dragging it across the sidewalk, and subsequently achieved his goal.
The attacker left the scene with the stolen property. The beige wallet contained $660 in cash, his cell phone and personal documents.
The city’s medical emergency center arrived at the scene and provided first aid, but she refused to be taken to a hospital facility.
The NPPR’s Bayamon Criminal Investigation Corps (CIC) Robbery Unit is conducting the investigation.
A young man fell victim to a scam after sending $8,000 to someone posing as a firefighter
A 22-year-old girl from Carolina was scammed by someone posing as an employee of the Puerto Rico Fire Department (NCBPR).
The complainant claimed that she received a call from a man who stated that if she did not apply for a fire permit, she would have to pay $10,000 or face a fine.
According to the Puerto Rico Police Department (NPPR), the victim paid $3,500 and later sent a check for $4,500 for the said services, which turned out to be a scam.
Special Agent Melissa Rodríguez assigned to the Newport Division conducted a preliminary investigation into the incident and referred the complaint to the San Juan Criminal Investigation Corps (CIC) Property Unit for continued investigation.
