Nigerian artist David Adeleke (nickname Davido) has commented on the global popularity of African music genres.
During a panel discussion with Hiptv’s US Advisory Board on African Diaspora Engagement and Nigerian Creative Industry Leaders, release X On Monday, Davido said ticket sales for African music artists are now on par with those of pop and hip-hop musicians like Drake.
He said the revenue from one African music song could translate into intergenerational wealth.

“Afrobeat artists are doing just as well at the box office as Drake. Now, as an Afrobeat artist, one song can change your generation.” He said.
Davido advised emerging musicians to work with themselves rather than going for foreign features, saying “when you work with friends, they give it their all.”
