Reverend Ruth Birungi’s refusal to allow her husband, Dr Celestine Barigye, the Executive Director of Nbarara Regional Referral Hospital, popularly known as Nbarara Hospital, to receive government-funded medical treatment continues to stir controversy.

Although she claimed to be seeking alternative medical treatment, friends and relatives believed she was trying to control her husband’s assets.

All the doctor’s relatives were insulted by the woman, and some even offered to take him for treatment, but the woman allegedly refused.

The government has stepped in to assign a team of senior doctors to care for the executive director, however, Pastor Bilongi reportedly blocked these efforts, leading to concerns about her husband’s health.

Fellow doctors at Nbarara Hospital have also reportedly expressed frustration, saying the longer treatment is delayed, the longer recovery will take.

This was revealed during a thanksgiving ceremony held in Bushenyi where people praised the executive director for his love and selflessness.

However, Pastor Bilongi’s speech at the event shocked those present as the manner in which she attacked others was unbecoming of a lowly wife of a hospital director.

A few days later, the hospital team organised to take their boss to the hospital, but Pastor Bilongi reportedly conspired with the driver, Alex, to cancel the plan.

Instead, they reportedly went to Pastor Kayanja’s church, claiming they were abroad for medical treatment.

Since then, Pastor Bilongi allegedly continued to hold her husband captive and denied him proper medical care.

“Relatives tried to intervene but Pastor Bilongi forbade them to send her husband to Mulago Hospital for treatment,” the source revealed.

He added: “The situation remains unresolved and the executive director’s health is in jeopardy. The doctors have called for strong action if Pastor Bilongi continues to obstruct the husband’s treatment. They have also advised him to rest quietly and not be disturbed by pastors hired by his wife who camp at the doctor’s residence and speak in tongues. However, the helpless relatives continue to expose their in-laws until justice is served.”
